Therapy Outdoors
Roger Day offers therapy outdoors for adults, young people and (in groups) children.
Sometimes people find it impossible to sit in a room facing the therapist. Others may be dealing with deep emotional issues that make it difficult for them to stay confined to the therapy room. For others, outdoor therapeutic work is useful at some point in their counselling journey.
Therapy outdoors, which Roger has termed Therapeutic Adventure, can be simply walking in the countryside or it can involve more strenuous, challenging activities. It can be individual therapy or it can lend itself easily to group therapy outdoors.
It is not appropriate for a child to be alone with an adult therapist outdoors. Groups of children, however, can build confidence and self-esteem, overcome fear and learn ways to express anger safely. Adults involved will always have enhanced CRB checks and work only within sight of other adults.
In addition to being a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and Certified Play Therapist, Roger Day is an active member of the group CAPO (Counselling and Psychotherapy Outdoors) www.outdoortherapy.org.uk
Roger and his wife Christine have written a book for therapists and other leaders with a wide range of outdoor therapeutic activities. Therapeutic Adventure: 64 activities for therapy outdoors (2008) costs £12 plus £4 postage and packing. To read the introduction and a sample activity CLICK HERE.
