Creative therapy training for
Christian counsellors
Academic year 2010-11
Roger and Christine Day are leading workshops for other organisations as follows. If you would like a place on any of these please contact the email address of the organisers.
Using nondirective sandtray therapy with adults - for Christian counsellors
This two-day experiential event will provide you with a basic understanding of what is involved in using sandtray with your adult clients.
It will include some necessary theory with a Christian insight and an introduction to the sandtray and objects. The rest of the time will be practical, spending time working in the sandtrays in twos, taking turns as therapist and client.
Transactions in the sand: A two-day experiential workshop in directive sandtray - for Christian counsellors
In this workshop counsellors can experience for themselves sandtray, known as the ‘silent therapy’, and discover its usefulness with their clients.
The workshop combines the effectiveness of sandtray for adults with theory based on transactional analysis. It will also include a biblical perspective.
Through this workshop you will learn the basics of directive sandtray therapy. Come prepared to learn about yourself as well as about the techniques.
Academic year 2011-12
Creative, practical skills for Christian counsellors and trainees working with adults and children. Each day can count as 6 hours’ CPD.
We are currently preparing our own programme for next academic year. Below are some oft he training events we are planning.
Introduction to therapy with children
This one-day introduction is designed for Christian counsellors who already have a Diploma in Counselling (or equivalent) and want to gain additional professional skills in working with children.
Many Christian counselling organisations offer therapy only with adults because training courses do not equip their counsellors to work with children. Brook Creative Therapy's eight-day course - of which this is the first day - can help fill that gap.
The full course will include practical skills in working with children. It will also include how to deal with the counsellor's own distressing countertransferential issues when a child presents with major trauma or suicidal issues. There will be details of what to do when there is a disclosure of abuse, how to involve parents and carers in the therapeutic process, the ethics of working with scapegoated children, safe touch techniques, and much more.
A CPD certificate will be issued for each one-day module attended. A Certificate in Therapy with Children from Brook Creative Therapy will be presented once the trainee has attended the eight days and completed a case study, a process diary and a written report on an infant observation.
Introduction to Transactional Analysis for Christian counsellors
This workshop provides you with exciting tools in working with clients. Participants can enjoy learning through hands-on experience and creativity. They can then help their clients understand themselves and work through therapeutic issues using these techniques.
Key transactional analysis (TA) concepts will be explored from a Christian counselling perspective. This may include scripts, strokes, ego states, psychological games, transactions, social time structuring, life positions, rackets, contracts and autonomy – all understood through practical skills you can use immediately with clients.
If you decide to qualify in TA, these six hours will count towards the 300 you need. (Note: This workshop does not replace the TA 101 overview, a required part of the 300 hours.)
Creative therapy techniques for Christian counsellors
This practical day gives a fast-paced overview of how to start using creative therapy with clients. There will be many games and activities for you to put in your ‘toolkit’.
Included in the day will be techniques involving sandtray, drawing and painting, stories and creative visualisation, and using small world objects.
This workshop will provide Christian counsellors with an opportunity to explore their own creativity within a safe, non-critical environment. Once they are comfortable with their creativity, they can begin to encourage clients in their own creative approaches to therapy.
